Sun World was one of the pioneers of produce licensing, offering unique varietals to international growers, who now number over 2,700. Those decades-long relationships with our licensees, remain the bedrock of the company today.
TODAY, SUN WORLD’S TABLE GRAPE BREEDING PROGRAM IS ONE OF THE LARGEST AND LONGEST-RUNNING IN THE WORLD, WITH 70,000+ ACRES PLANTED IN 17 COUNTRIES, AND 450+ PLANT PATENTS HELD ACROSS A ROBUST GENETICS PLATFORM.
Sun World holds the rights to a globally-significant portfolio of table grape and stone fruit varieties. Additionally, the company has a robust pipeline of not-yet-commercialized varieties, making the growth runway for Sun World in the years ahead predictable, scalable and formidable.
Adding adjacent crops to the company’s core portfolio of table grape and stone fruit germplasm has been a driver for Sun World for the better part of a decade. To that end, internationally important collections of citrus and mangos, as well as a developing program in avocados, have been added to Sun World’s range through the 2024 acquisition of Biogold, a leading variety rights management company.
Sun World now even more effectively serves its licensees by offering this comprehensive collection of the crop categories their retail customers most desire. That has happened through work at Sun World’s labs at the Center for Innovation in Central California; via variety rights management for other breeders; and by the careful commercialization of the company’s genetic assets.
All are in-demand assets Sun World is well-positioned to optimize.
